#1131 LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE The Monkees
The release of "Last Train to Clarksville"as a single was timed to coincide with the premiere of the fictional group's TV series. "The Monkees" went on to attract a devoted audience and this all helped to make the records released under their name chart hits. This 1966 single was their debut hit and reached #1 in the USA. The song was penned by Bobby Hart and Tommy Boyce. The 2 songwriters enjoyed their own music career as the duo Boyce & Hart, scoring hits that included "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite" and "Alice Long (You're Still My Favorite Girlfriend)".
Sadly, Boyce committed suicide in 1994, after battling with depression and illness.
